THE HISTORICAL TABLE
The Ford Library’s Facts and Favorites names pot roast and red cabbage as Ford’s preferred food and butter pecan ice cream as his dessert. It even points readers to White House chef Henry Haller’s family cookbook for the roast and cabbage recipes.
Our pot roast is a modern home adaptation of that clear preference. Slow cooking turns a modest cut into tender slices and gives the vegetables time to flavour the sauce. Red cabbage is a fitting accompaniment when you want to complete the recorded combination.
