Johnson’s food story is strongly tied to the Texas ranch. LBJ Library accounts describe substantial breakfasts and Southern dishes, while the Pedernales River chili tradition remains closely associated with his household. These were foods that could feed guests generously without a formal dining room.

Our bean-free beef chili is a home adaptation of that Texas tradition. Barbecue chicken and cornbread reconstruct the wider ranch table around it. Choose the chili for the strongest named connection, then use the other two dishes to build a meal for company.
