A famous plain lunch, and a family meatloaf

Nixon’s cottage cheese and pineapple was more than a food anecdote: photographs preserve that lunch at the White House on 8 August 1974. His family’s other well-known contribution is Pat Nixon’s White House meatloaf, whose recipe survives in the National Archives.

Meatloaf makes the more substantial dinner in our menu. We use a modern small-batch mixture and a simple glaze, then pair it with a baked potato. The potato is a reconstructed accompaniment; the meatloaf’s link is the preserved family recipe.
